He is one of the few pioneer doctors in Sri Laanka who organized Ancient Ayurveda treatment philosophy to a package, to suit the modern tourists holiday package. In Sri Lanka well organised Ayurveda treatments for tourists started in mid 1990’s.

Dr. G. A. B. Alawattegama, is an expert on pulse diagnosis and is the seventh generation of a family of traditional ayurveda doctors in Sri Lanka. He has served as a specialist in two major Ayurveda Hospitals in Sri Lanka and is well versed in western and eastern medicinal methods including specializing in Homeopathy and Acupunture. He is a descendant of a prestigious generation of ayurveda Doctors who are famed for curing Eye deceases, Catarrh and Arthritis. Dr. Alawattegama has been employed as Chief Ayurveda Doctor in several star class hotels in Sri Lanka, where he has gained much fame in curing different ailments suffered by European patients. His skill in the use of traditional ayurvedic methods to suite European clientele has earned him much fame in Europe.

Dr. Alawattegama is an Honorary Consultant of the Ministry of indigenous Medicine, Pandit in Ingenous Medicine and a committee member of the Ayurveda Research Committee ( upto 2001 ) founded by the same ministry. The main function of the Ayurveda Research Committee is to conserve and propagate the plantation of herbal which involves handling of appropriate research. M.D-Ph.D.-M.E.Hom, D.A.S.C.( Sri Lanka) D. A. Hons. ( Sri Lanka), M.A.C.F. ( Sri Lanka) D.A.C. ( Sri Lanka) and holder of Sahashrabhisheka Vaidyasuri Sammanaya and Gaurawa nama Sammuthika Upadhiya as Ayurveda Visharada Pandith. Being the District Co-ordinator – Health Services ( Ayurveda ) – of the International Association Lions Clubs District 306 A for the past 8 years, he is involved in providing training in personal hygiene, healthy living and the importance and methods of plantation of herbal plants. He is also actively involved in plantation of herbal gardens.

He is very well known in Germany, Austria , and many Europian countries as a very well experienced Ayurveda doctor. Each year he treats many thousands of foreign and local patients, to give them some relief, and managed to make them live atleast more lifetime than they expected. Sometimes even patients who ‘s treatments were rejected by other doctors without hope, also have lived more life than they expected.

He even treats cancer patients to subpress cancer growth. Also psoriasis, Arthritis,Piles and diabetes. The doctor is in his 60’s and has an experience of about 30 years working as an Ayurvedic doctor diagnosing nearly 75 both local and foreign patients a day. More he diagnose, more experience he gain in pulse diagnosing which is a very unique technique..
